SELAYANG: About 10,000 of the 30,000 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022 candidates who did not sit for papers have registered to resit the examinations, says Fadhlina Sidek.

The Education Minister said this shows that they are still interested in pursuing an education.

"10,000 of them have applied to resit the SPM," she told reporters after the Top Sijil Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia (STPM) Students Award Ceremony here on Thursday (July 13).

As for the other 20,000 candidates, Fadhlina said the ministry is still trying to identify and get the full information on their whereabouts.

She said that they could be working, are sick or facing other social issues.

The Education Ministry had extended the deadline for registration for private SPM candidates by two weeks to June 30.

It said the decision to extend the registration deadline is in line with the ministry's aim to solve dropout issues and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call to give these students a second chance.
