Authorities said a driver struck and killed a pedestrian along Leesburg Pike in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County.

       The crash happened around 11 a.m. Monday on the road near Magnolia Drive, according to Fairfax County police. An initial investigation found that Nguyet Ly, of Falls Church, was walking in the westbound lane of Leesburg Pike “near the shoulder when she was hit by a Subaru Impreza that was turning out of a business onto the road.

       Ly was taken to a hospital, where she later died, police said. Officials said there is no sidewalk on that part of Leesburg Pike where Ly was walking.

       Authorities said “speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.” The incident remains under investigation.
