Royal author Robert Lacey argued that everybody has been trying and wanting Prince Harry and Prince William to repair their strained relationship. While speaking on the US TODAY Show, Mr Lacey said the brothers are proving to be "obstinate". He also hoped the pair would be able to set their differences aside for their late mother's statue unveiling on Thursday.

       Mr Lacey said: "When Charles and Diana split, their friends joined them, there was a sort of open war.

       "Now everybody wants to bring the brothers together but at the moment they are proving obstinate.

       "We are just hoping that when it comes to the unveiling of the status of their mother Diana on Thursday maybe that will change.

       "Maybe there will be a move in a more positive direction."

       Mr Lacey has previously revealed his hopes the pair will improve their relationship ahead of the unveiling.

       While speaking on Good Morning Britain he said: "One would say, surely when they are gathered together to honour their mother and what Princess Diana stood for that will be the time we can hope for some kind of reconciliation.

       "Otherwise if they just appear together in front of the statue and there is nothing more I think we will rightly conclude that it is a superficial gesture.

       "If you are putting up a statue to Diana, who would have thought that 25 years ago."

       Other royal experts have highlighted that despite the occasion, neither brother appears to be willing to make amends.

       Royal expert Roya Nikkhah has said: "Neither brothers are offering an olive branch."

       The royal editor was speaking to a close friend of both brothers who reportedly said:

       “I fear it will be the same as at Prince Philip’s funeral.

       "A nod of recognition, and that’s about it.”

       The royal source added: “On the day, it will be difficult to separate the statue from the occasion

       "The occasion is now loaded with all sorts of unwelcome baggage.

       “Of course they will put on a brave face for the event.

       "This is what both brothers did at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral."
