Floods: Number of evacuees increased to over 2,000

       SEREMBAN: Continuous rain in parts of Negri Sembilan has led to the number of people being forced to be evacuated due to floods increased to 2,103.

       A Civil Defence spokesman said the number of people who had to be moved from their homes in Tampin as of 9pm on Sunday (Jan 2) stood at 1,540.

       Another 381 people had to be evacuated from their homes in Jempol, followed by Kuala Pilah (155) and Jelebu (27).

       Twenty relief centres have been opened in the state with 11 in Tampin, Jempol (six), Kuala Pilah (two) and Jelebu (one).

       At 4pm, the number of evacuees in the state totalled 1,741.

       Tampin had 1,253, Jempol (346), Kuala Pilah (116) and Jelebu (27).

       Several roads were also closed temporarily due to flash floods.

       Among these were stretches along Jalan Jelai-Bahau, Jalan Loop Palong, Jalan Dangi-Bahau, Jalan Gemas-Rompin, Jalan Londah-Gemas, Jalan Kurnia Diraja-Felda Jelai 2, Jalan Dangi-Kepis-Bahau and Jalan Gemas-Jelai Tambahan.
