SEREMBAN: Enforcement officers from the Kuala Pilah district council did not throw items, including foodstuffs, sold by a petty trader on the road in Air Mawang, says the local authority.

       The council, in a statement said a 20-second clip which has gone viral on social media, did not reflect what really transpired.

       It said investigations carried out by the council determined the incident happened on April 18 in Kg Renggoh, while the officers were on patrol duty at the Air Mawang bazaar and surrounding areas.

       "The officers, while on their rounds, saw the petty trader concerned and upon inspection, discovered that he did not have a license.

       "The officers had, during a similar inspection on April 14, came across the same individual and upon discovering that he did not have a license, advised him to apply for one," it said.

       The council said when they asked to see his license, the man started provoking them.

       "The individual then started messing up his table and threw the items onto the road.

       "The officers had nothing to do with that," he said.

       It said the council has always been accommodating and tolerant with petty traders, what more it was the month of Ramadan.

       "We have also been looking into problems faced by petty traders where we, among others, spent RM1mil last year building centres for them in Melang, Pilah and Juasseh," he said.

       The council said it viewed the allegations seriously and would lodge a police report.
