KUCHING: More than 7,000 police officers will be involved with the 12th Sarawak state elections, says Senior Assistant Commissioner Gilberd Philip Anak Layang.
Most of the police officers will be sent from Bukit Aman and they will be monitoring polling day this Saturday (Dec 18), said Gilberd, who is also the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters management department chief.
“Specifically, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Special Branch, will be assigned to the state election,” he told reporters when met at the Sarawak Police Headquarters near Satok on Thursday (Dec 16) morning.
Gilberd also said the state’s police force will also be deployed along with the General Operations Force and the fifth Region (Sarawak) Marine Police Force for the state elections.
He added that half of the 7,000 arrived on Wednesday (Dec 15) to prepare ahead of polling day this Saturday, and evening, the remaining police will arrive on Thursday (Dec 16).
“When they arrive at the district police headquarters that they were assigned to, the police chief of the district will brief them about their assignment,” added Gilberd.
Polling day for the Sarawak state election is on Saturday (Dec 18).
