The teen and his mum Dawn Cornes, 48, from Preston, discovered the hidden letter after his TV fell on some tiles.

In the letter the man, whose surname which looks like Habgood or Halgood, asks his married lover to keep their relationship secret.

Dawn said: "My son was cleaning his room, when the 55 inch TV fell from his dresser and smashed some of the hearth tiles.

"As we were cleaning up, we decided to take the tiles up.

"My son said 'Wouldn't it be funny if we found something hidden, like the deeds to the house' and then proceeded to find the letter.

       "It was all very spooky."

The mum and son were delighted to have found the letter, especially as it had such an intriguing story behind it.

She added: "We thought it was a very sweet love letter, and were excited to find it."

Although there is no date on the letter, Dawn was told the house was built in 1917 but having only moved in in May this year, she doesn't know much about any previous residents.

Others have suggested that judging by the writing and paper size, it could be from around the 1920s.

The letter also mentioned Fulwood tram corner and trams have not run in the city for more than 80 years.

Some locals tried to use online archives to track Ronald down but didn't quite find a perfect match.

       LOVE LETTER

The letter is thought to say:

"My own darling, My own my own will you try every morning to come and see me.

"But please don't tell anyone because it must be a secret for just your ears and mine because if anyone got to know you meet me and you a married woman there would be trouble so remember darling.

"I love you so much. Don't tell and meet me every day if you can at midnight at Fulwood tram corner

"Hoping to see you darling, Your own boy, Ronald."

Dawn posted the letter online, with more than 3,000 people left thrilled by the love letter.

One person wrote: "What a wonderful piece of history your house was hiding."

Another added: "I think this is my favorite post ever on here! What a sweet discovery!!!"

A third said: "Frame it!!! What a treasured keepsake."

Someone else said: "Makes me want to know what became of them."

A fifth added: "Ohh a scandal Ronald in love with a married woman.

       Amazing letter nonetheless!!"

Dawn plans to keep the letter as a memento and frame it for the wall.
