The overwhelming majority of voters, 96 percent, said Meghan and Harry should not christen their daughter at Windsor Castle, in a poll of 24,621 readers held between 5pm July 29 and 9.30am August 3. Only three percent of voters said Lilibet should be christened at Windsor Castle, and one percent were not sure.

In the comments section, many people passionately demanded that Harry and Meghan should “stay away” altogether, because they are “not welcome here”.

One reader said: “This precious rite should take place in the United States, where she [Lilibet] was born.”

Another commented: "Whether they hold a celebrity christening in California, or a royal christening in Windsor, why do they care? I don't see them making any other efforts to introduce their children to the Royal Family."

When asked whether members of the Royal Family would welcome them back for the christening, 43 percent of people thought that none of them would, 39 percent said that just a few members would.

In contrast, 17 percent thought that many members would, but only one percent thought the whole family would be welcoming.

Reader, JeanMary, said: “For a Christening, I think some family members would appear.

“While Meghan and Harry might think it is all about them, it is really about the child and her relationship with God.”
