PETALING JAYA: Another 272 deaths from Covid-19 were recorded on Monday (Sept 6), taking the death toll to 18,491, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic).
The Health director-general said 227 deaths were local while the remaining were foreigners.
He said 81 from the total death were brought-in-dead cases.
Selangor and Johor recorded the most deaths at 63 cases respectively, followed by Sabah (31), Kuala Lumpur (21) and Penang (20).
Dr Noor Hisham said 17,352 new cases were recorded, of which 17,084 were in Category One and Category Two while the remaining 268 were in Category Three, Category Four and Category Five.
A total of 11,250 cases or 65.9% of those in Category One and Category Two 2 while 191 cases (71.3%) of those in other categories were either not fully vaccinated or unvaccinated.
Sarawak recorded the most new cases with a total of 3,714 cases followed by Selangor (2,126), Johor (1,844) and Kedah (1,599).
Dr Noor Hisham also said that as of 5pm Sunday (Sept 5), the non-intensive care unit (ICU) of 830-bed usage in Penang had reached an astounding 122% while its 77 ICU beds were reaching the full capacity at 94%.
Perlis, with 195 non-ICU beds, had also reached a usage of 109%.
He added that another 30 new clusters had been detected with 16 of them linked to workplaces, communities (seven), high-risk groups (four), educational institutions (two) and detention centre (one).
The latest data by the Health Ministry also stated that the country’s infectivity rate or R-naught was below 1.0 at 0.96, however, Sarawak recorded the highest with 1.17 followed by Perlis (1.15) and Johor (1.10).
