She's back! Gina Miller launches new political party named True & Fair

The proposed party will be known as True & Fair and is set to be registered with the Electoral Commission. Ms Miller said in a statement this morning: "This government needs to be held to account.

"Voters deserve better than the current politics of incompetence and self-interest."

The party is separate from Ms Miller's True and Fair Campaign which was launched in 2012 to improve transparency, governance, consumer protection and conduct in the UK financial services sector.

Ms Miller famously took the UK Government to court when Theresa May was Prime Minister over a decision to trigger Article 50, the first milestone in the UK leaving the EU without seeking a vote in the House of Commons.

The City investor also claimed victory after the Supreme Court ruled that Boris Johnson's advice to The Queen to suspend Parliament for five weeks ahead of an extended Brexit deadline of October 31, 2019 was unlawful.

At the time when Boris Johnson made the announcement in August 2019, Ms Miller filed an urgent application for a legal challenge against the decision, branding the announcement by the UK Prime Minister as “cynical and cowardly”.

An emergency three-day hearing later took place in September 2019 which exposed fundamental legal differences over-interpreting the country’s unwritten constitution.

But 11 justices on the UK’s highest court backed Ms Miller's arguments with a unanimous judgment.

Ms Miller has rigorously defended her work campaigning against the Government on Brexit in recent years, making clear there was no one who “believes more in parliamentary sovereignty and has actioned more in defending it than I would argue myself and my team”.

She cautioned at the time “there is absolutely no point in us being a divided country”.

Ms Miller outlined: “Divided countries do not prosper.

"We have covid, we don’t know what else is coming round the corner, the future is uncertain and unless we can work together to make sure that we are not damaged as a country.

"I'm sorry but this will just end up being a lost opportunity.”
