Masala Canteen in Wembley High Road caught alight just before 9am this morning, with one person in the building. He was able to escape the fire and is now being treated for smoke inhalation by the London Ambulance Service (LAS). He has been taken to hospital.

Video footage from the scene shows huge plumes of black smoke rising from the building.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) have had to pull crews from Park Royal, Northolt, Willesden, Acton to tackle the blaze.

They said over 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines are currently at the scene.

Currently the ground floor of the building is alight and has spread to the extraction system from the ground to the third floor.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.

Masala Canteen is located on a busy junction and police have erected a cordon around the building.

Police have also closed nearby roads to allow firefighters sufficient access to the building.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area.

Station Commander Dave Hill, who is at the scene, said: "Firefighters were faced with heavy smoke issuing from the building on arrival.

"Our Control Officers have taken a large number of calls to the blaze due to the amount of smoke.

"The building is on the junction with Ealing Road and there are a number of local road closures in place so traffic is heavy. We would advise motorists to avoid the area where possible as we will be on scene for some time."
