Rachel Gilmour's outburst has prompted calls for an investigation (Image: Rachel Gilmour)
Furious locals are demanding an investigation into their local MP over a foul-mouthed rant. Parliament’s chief standards enforcer has been inundated with calls for an investigation from constituents of the Lib Dem MP, whose X-rated outburst on a visit to Hinkley Point power station was revealed by this paper. Rachel Gilmour has been accused of insulting security staff, apprentices and a constituent during the visit in February, with accounts of the visit now being verified by the BBC.
Last week The Express revealed that Ms Gilmour went on an “astonishing” tirade during the visit, leaving onlookers shocked. A source claimed she called a security guard at the front gate a “c***” and an “obnoxious t***” before reportedly speculating “I bet he votes f****** Tory”. It followed an incident with her driver’s licence, which was discovered to have expired some months prior.

Ms Gilmour was then taken to watch an end-of-year film, including the story of a local apprentice who has found training and work at the nuclear site.
During the film, the MP reportedly spat: “Why are you showing me this s***. Don’t show me this s*** again.”
Sources said that in another outburst, a constituent who asked to tell the Lib Dem her story about working at the plant was met with the response: “I’m not going to chat s*** with my constituents either.”

While Ms Gilmour emphatically denied all the allegations, the BBC has now sourced the same claims from other witnesses.
The Express understands that numerous shocked constituents have now written to Parliament’s standards chief demanding a formal investigation into whether her behaviour breached Commons rules.

A number of the letters, which the Express has seen, accuse the Tiverton and Minehead MP of demonstrating a behaviour that is “wholly inconsistent with the standards expected of a Member of Parliament”.
One shocked member of Ms Gilmour’s electorate accused her actions of breaching a number of MP rules, including a failure to treat others with dignity and respect; bringing parliament into disrepute; and demonstrating integrity and acting in a way that maintains public confidence in Parliament.
She is also accused of undermining trust in public office.
The police have also received complaints following the incident, with accusations the MP’s behaviour breached the Public Order Act 1986, which bans the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words.
The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards would not confirm whether he is considering a formal probe.

However a Conservative Party spokesman warned: “There are serious questions for the Lib Dems to answer.”

“The evidence is mounting up against Rachel Gilmour’s claims. It is deeply worrying that Ed Davey is still accepting her story at face value. It must be looked into at once”
A Liberal Democrat spokesperson said: "We are aware of allegations that have been made about Rachel Gilmour's conduct. If any complaints are received they will be investigated under the party's independent complaints process.”
A spokesman for Mrs Gilmour said: “Rachel still denies the characterisation of the visit, and the language used. Rachel has continued a productive working relationship with Hinkley Point A and B, and will continue to conduct her duties as the MP for Tiverton and Minehead.”
