Two lanes were closed on the eastbound carriageway near Rochdale, Greater Manchester, between junction 20 for the A627(M) and junction 21 for Milnrow. All lanes are now open but severe delays remain with around six miles of queues holding up drivers.

       Traffic is back to junction 19 for Heywood, according to Google Traffic.

       As of 8.23am, bus services in the area are experiencing delays because of the crash, Manchester Evening News reports.

       First Manchester said: "We are currently experiencing delays of up to 27 minutes on our 409 services into Rochdale due to an issue on the M62. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

       Shortly after the accident Highways England North West said: The #M62 eastbound #J20 (#ThornhamIsland #A627M) to #J21 (#Milnrow #Shaw #A640) 2 lanes have been closed due to a collision."

       Traffic is slow westbound from junction 22 for Rishworth, West Yorkshire, due to onlookers.

       There isn't an official diversion in place but eastbound motorists are leaving at junction 20 to use A627(M) north and are then using local roads through Rochdale, which are busy as a result.

       Elsewhere, the M25 is busy this morning due to an accident near Dartford Crossing.
