MELAKA: Police have detained a 27-year-old express bus driver at Melaka Sentral terminal here after he allegedly outraged the modesty of a trainee teacher.

       Melaka CID chief Asst Comm Lim Meng Seah said the suspect was detained as soon as he arrived at Melaka Sentral from his round trip to Kelantan at 10.30am on Sunday (May 8).

       He said the 21-year-old victim had told police that the driver abused her sexually while the bus had stopped at the Ajil rest and recreational area in Terengganu at 4am the same day.

       "The victim had alerted the police, claiming that the driver caressed both her thighs while she was asleep during the journey back from Kota Baru.

       "The victim is undergoing teacher's training at a college here and was returning after the Hari Raya break," he said.

       ACP Lim said the victim was asked to lodge a police report at Melaka Tengah police headquarters.

       He added that the suspect will be handed over to Terengganu police as the incident occurred in that state.

       It was learnt that the victim also informed her friends here of the incident and all of them also helped by informing the police.
