PETALING JAYA: The heat on the Timah brand name has yet to subside as PAS maintains its objections to the name despite a Cabinet’s decision allowing the whiskey brand to continue using it.
PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad reportedly said that the party was clear on its stance and opposed the decision made by the Cabinet.
"We do not agree to whatever name is used whether it is Timah, Dolah, Wahab... we strongly oppose it. No one from the party supports the whiskey brand Timah," Malay daily Sinar Harian reported him as saying at a press conference after visiting a recipient of the "Inspirasiku MyHAUS Program" in Menglembu, Perak.
He, however, refused to comment in his capacity as the Minister at Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) adding that the Cabinet already had its final say.
On Saturday (Nov 13), the Cabinet had agreed to allow homegrown whiskey brand Timah to maintain its name, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said.
The manufacturer is, however, required to add in an additional label on the whisky bottle to explain that its name is actually in reference to “bijih timah”, which means tin ore in Bahasa Malaysia.
