SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A fire broke out in a timber market in the Raghzai area of Birmal tehsil of Lower South Waziristan district on Saturday morning, the first day of Eidul Azha, destroying valuable stocks of deodar and chestnut wood.
The blaze also partially damaged a nearby private school.
According to initial reports, the fire erupted early in the morning and large quantities of high-value timber, including deodar and chestnut, were reduced to ashes within minutes. These woods are considered a major source of livelihood for local contractors and traders.

Following the fire incident, rescue teams and the district administration responded promptly.
According to naib tehsildar Zaman, the fire was brought under control through a joint effort by Rescue 1122 personnel and members of the local community. The timely operation helped prevent the fire from spreading further.
Contractors and timber business owners have expressed deep concern and sorrow over the losses, stating that their only source of income has been destroyed. They appealed to the provincial government for immediate financial assistance.
The blaze also affected a private educational institution located near the timber market. School officials reported that the fire damaged a solar power system, computers, furniture, and other equipment. The school’s administration also appealed to the provincial government for emergency financial aid.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. The residents called for a transparent investigation to determine the origin of the incident and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
