KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter scale occurred at 1.19 pm on Saturday (Dec 30) off the northwest coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

       It said in a statement that the earthquake with a depth of 19 kilometres (km) occurred at a distance of 323 km west of Simeulue, Indonesia.

       However, it did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it said. - Bernama
