KLUANG: The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested three men and seized contraband cigarettes and alcohol worth more than RM127,000.
GOF Battalion 5 commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said two of them were arrested in a raid at a shop in Taman Delima here at around 9.30am on Monday (Nov 1).
He said the force discovered 54 cartons of illicit cigarettes and 1,745 bottles of alcohol of various brands.
“We questioned the suspects, aged 28 and 33, and their information led us to another shop in Jalan Saujana Perdana 1, Taman Saujana, Kluang, where we arrested another man.
“We also found 168 cans and 175 bottles of alcoholic beverages in the premises.
“All the items totalling RM127,318.55 were untaxed and we believe the Customs sticker on the products was fake too,” he said on Tuesday (Nov 2).
Supt Dimin added that the suspects were said to have supplied bootleg items to sundry shops in the Kluang area.
“We believe that the arrests have crippled a distribution chain of contraband items in the district,” he said.
All three suspects were handed over to the Kluang police headquarters for investigations under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967.
