A new poll for the Daily Express has revealed widespread concerns about Labour’s policy on trans rights and the threat any weakening of women’s protections could have on female safety.
The survey of 2,012 British adults this week found that a whopping 74% of Labour voters believe trans women should not be allowed into women’s changing rooms and toilet facilities.

The blow for Sir Keir comes after he rejected calls by Rishi Sunak at this week’s BBC debate to change equality legislation to enforce women’s protections in law.
The poll by Whitestone Insight finds the British public firmly opposed to any measures that would erode gender divides and allow men to identify as women or access women-only spaces.
84% of those polled agreed that the definition of a women is an “adult human female”, while 71% said a woman cannot have a penis.

By contrast, just 14% took the woke view that women can have a male appendage, a view previously espoused by Keir Starmer before he flip-flopped.
Just 16% of Brits agree that trans women should be allowed to participate in women’s sports, while an overwhelming 64% said trans women - or men who identify as women - should not be allowed into women’s changing rooms and toilet facilities.
A similar 66% said trans women should be banned from participating in women’s sport, while 60% said it should not be possible to self-identify as a different gender without a proper process involving medical and legal opinions.
Damningly for Labour, over four in ten female voters say that Sir Keir Starmer’s party is a threat to their safety and rights.
24% agreed with the proposition, with just 32% disagreeing.

Stripping out the large number of ‘don’t knows’, however, reveals that of those with a view, 43% of women say Labour is a threat to their rights.
Lachlan Rurlander, a Consultant at Whitestone Insight said: “These results suggest that Labour is out of step with the pulse of public opinion when it comes to issues of gender, women's rights and trans”.
“Sir Keir Starmer's beating about the bush on these issue means that a quarter of women see Labour as a threat to women's safety and women's rights, which is not a positive place for any party to be hoping to be in Government in a week's time.”
Earlier this week, Harry Potter author and women’s rights activist JK Rowling accused Labour of abandoning women in favour of trans people.

Last year, the Labour leader said "99.9% of women" do not have a penis and in 2021 stated it was "not right" for Labour MP Rosie Duffield to say that "only women have a cervix”.
On a 5Live phone-in show today, Sir Keir was challenged by a voter who demanded to know why he is “not listening to biological women when they say they don’t want to share a space with biological men” in the wake of Starmer’s plans to make it easier to legally change gender”.
The caller, Jane, eventually called his answer “absolute twaddle”.
