AT least four people have died after a horror blaze ripped through a retirement home in Germany.
Firefighters had to smash the care home's windows to rescue some of the elderly residents in Bedburg-Hau.

Emergency services rushed to the scene this morning around 5am local time after the fire broke out at the House Simon care home.
At least four people died in the fire while another 15 were left injured.
Spokesperson for the fire department Michael Hendricks described the situation as dramatic and said firefighters were forced to break the windows to rescue some of the trapped residents.
But the two-storey building had been engulfed in flames to such an extent, it was impossible to access some areas.

It is understood that one individual is in critical condition while a firefighter and a police officer were also seriously injured.
All 46 residents of the retirement home had to be evacuated, according to Bild.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and the fire department is carrying out an investigation.
