KUALA LUMPUR: Xin Hwa Holdings Bhd, a domestic integrated logistics service provider, has invested about RM100mil to establish an e-fulfillment centre in Shah Alam.

       Xin Hwa said the centre is a purpose-built building, specially designed to facilitate eCommerce logistics and to support the booming eCommerce market, which entails high volume and smaller-sized packages in general.

       “This facility is part of Xin Hwa’s warehouse capacity expansion strategy, which aims to capitalise on the rising demand for warehousing space as a result of supply chain interruptions and the growth of online trading activities.

       “This establishment will create more high-value jobs for Malaysians while providing the country an ideal platform to facilitate the rapid growth of eCommerce.”

       Located along the Elite Highway, the centre comprises a seven-storey office and a three-storey warehouse with a total built-up area of 300,000 sq ft.

       Xin Hwa said the launch of the centre yesterday was timely for the Malaysian logistics industry due to the prevailing warehousing space shortage stemming from consumers’ shift to online shopping, which is exacerbated by supply chain disruptions.

       Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) chief executive officer Datuk Arham Abdul Rahman said the agency continues to facilitate Malaysian logistics companies in their forays into the eCommerce business, mainly through the e-fulfillment segment.

       “Mida is confident that the ongoing engagement between the public and private sectors will accelerate the development of Malaysia’s logistics and eCommerce ecosystems.

       “Our goal is to create more businesses and jobs to increase the overall wealth and prosperity of the country,” he said.

       Xin Hwa managing director Ng Aik Chuan said the company aims to ride on the strong recovery in the logistics industry as the country progresses towards endemicity and reopening of international borders, moving forward.

       “In this regard, we have already planned for further investment to continue expanding our logistics and warehousing capacity and look forward to working with Mida to realise these plans,” he said.

       Xin Hwa offers both bonded and non-bonded warehousing options through its eight warehouses, of which five are in Johor and one each in Klang, Shah Alam and Kuantan.

       Currently, the company has an adequate storage capacity of about 1.2 million sq ft. — Bernama
