KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan is considering legal action against Kukusan assemblyman Rina Jainal for leaving the party to join another.
Warisan vice-president Datuk Jaujan Sambakong said if Rina was sincere in wanting to serve her people, she should have just become an independent representative.
He said Rina made a pledge of allegiance to the party in front of lawyers before the Sabah election in September last year and some of the terms were that she must step down as assemblyman if she decides to leave the party after being voted in as a state representative.
He said the same action was being mulled for all the other members who had quit Warisan.
They are Sebatik assemblyman Hassan A Gani Pg Amir, Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Yusof Yacob, Segama’s Datuk Mohammadin Ketapi, Melalap’s Datuk Peter Anthony and Limbahau’s Datuk Juil Nuatim.
Jaujan said those who left Warisan saying they wanted to fight for the people and bring their struggles to the attention of the government better should not have jumped parties.
On other matters, he urged the GRS-Barisan Nasional state government to stop the alleged act of "offering benefits" to assemblymen and to focus on improving the livelihood of the people.
He said such alleged practices, especially towards Opposition leaders, were undemocratic and could cause the people to lose confidence in the current governance.
He said the main focus of the state government should be addressing the various pressing issues including the post-pandemic recovery process, rising cost of living and infrastructure woes among the people.
