A man was found dead in a pond at the U.S. National Arboretum by children playing there on Wednesday afternoon, D.C. police said.

       About 3:13 p.m., police were called to the 3500 block of New York Avenue NE t and found the man in a pond on the grounds of the arboretum, police said.

       D.C. Fire and EMS’s special operations personnel assisted police in recovering the man’s body from the pond, said Vito Maggiolo, a spokesperson for D.C. Fire and EMS.

       Police have not yet identified the man. A death investigation is ongoing.
