TANGKAK: A 36-year-old jobless man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his uncle in their family home in Kampung Serom 3 Sungai Mati here.
Tangkak OCPD Supt Mohd Fadhil Minhat said police were alerted to the murder of a 72-year-old man at around 1.19pm yesterday.
“We received a report from a man who said his brother-in-law was lifeless after being stabbed with a knife by the suspect in their house.
“A police team immediately went to the scene and apprehended the suspect.
“They also seized a knife believed to be the murder weapon,” he said here yesterday.
Supt Mohd Fadhil said the victim had several stab wounds on his face, head and body.
“Initial investigations revealed that an argument had broken out between the victim and the suspect before the incident happened at around 11.15am.
“The suspect had been staying with the victim since he was a child,” he said.
Supt Mohd Fadhil added that the body had been sent to Tangkak Hospital, where it would be tested for Covid-19 before a post-mortem was conducted.
He also said the suspect, who had six prior offences including for drug abuse, would be remanded today.
He added that the police had classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
