A new mother has been advised to “ditch” her toxic husband after he changed the spelling of their newborn son's name without even consulting her. The alteration to the name was made while she was recovering from an emergency C-section in the hospital.

Sharing her frustration in mum's advice column, she claimed that her mother-in-law manipulated her husband to change the name.
According to the woman, her mother-in-law thought her choice was “more masculine”.
She explained that the soon parents-to-be had picked the perfect name before their son was born.
However, she was left shocked to see that her husband had spelled it “Finlay” on all of the legal documents.

The mother said she only found out about the spelling when she went to find the birth certificate and social security card - which her husband had hidden away.
She added he “felt bad as soon as he did it which is why he hid the documents”. The truth came out when she asked her husband, assuming it was an innocent mistake.
She said: “Apparently his mother guilt-tripped him into doing this. Keep in mind she lives a few states away, so this was all over the phone.
“She tried to convince him to give our son a first name that I very much hated, saying that I would 'get mad, but get over it.”

While her husband refused to change the first name, he Egave into the spelling his mum wanted for the middle name.
She said: “She thinks that 'Finlay' is more masculine than 'Finley.'”
The mum explained her mother-in-law has always been manipulative but for her, this was the final straw. She also revealed she was furious at her husband for deceiving her for months.
She fumed: “'His mother even sent a Christmas gift to middle name 'Finlay,' and when I made a comment to my husband he didn't even have the decency to tell me.
“He just let me keep believing for two months that our son's middle name was spelt Finley when it legally isn't!”
She further stated that she would be legally changing the documentation to update the spelling she prefers. She also claimed that the new parents would be “working things out” but she has refused to have a relationship with his mother ever since everything came out.
However, social media users believe that the mother hasn't gone far enough. One woman said: “What in the entire f**k is up with your husband? He’s got to decide if you are his co-parent or if his mother is. And until he makes that decision, he can’t be trusted.
“I don’t take divorce lightly, and I’m not recommending it on the strength of this one event alone, but a thing like this gets up to a good 65 percent on the Potential Divorce-O-Meter, and if I were you I would need some time to get over this.”
Others described the woman's husband as a “worthless sack”. Another said: “'I would get revenge by never seeing her again and filling out birthday and Christmas cards with your son's full name spelt the way you like it.”
