BALIK PULAU: A 39-year-old unemployed man was arrested for allegedly breaking into a cash deposit machine (CDM) at a bank here.
Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal said the police received information from the public that there was an attempt to break into a CDM at a local bank in Lintang Bukit Penara, Balik Pulau, at around 10pm on Wednesday (June 23).
“Acting on the information, a police team rushed to the scene and managed to arrest the suspect. Preliminary investigation found that one of the two CDMs in the bank was damaged," said Supt Kamarul.
“However, the suspect failed to break the CDM before being arrested by the police. We believe that the incident happened at 9.40pm before we received the information from the public," he added.
He said in a statement on Thursday (June 24) that it is believed that the suspect used an iron rod believed to be a vehicle component in an attempt to break the CDM.
Supt Kamarul added that the case is being investigated under Sections 380, 511 and 427 of the Penal Code.
“The suspect has four previous records for narcotics offences. He was remanded at the Balik Pulau Magistrate's Court on Thursday morning,” he said.
