KOTA KINABALU: A teenager was forced to jump out of a moving ehailing vehicle after the driver allegedly molested and robbed her near Jalan Kionsom Inanam, not far from here.
The incident, which took place around 9am yesterday, circulated on various social media platforms.
It began when the 19-year-old salesperson entered a dark blue Perodua Axia ehailing vehicle to go to work in Menggatal.
Kota Kinabalu deputy OCPD Supt George Rakman said the driver told the victim that he had to take a detour to reach her requested destination as the main route was congested.
“As they neared the Kionsom waterfall area, the driver allegedly asked the girl to switch to the front passenger seat as she was seated behind,” Supt George said in a statement.
The driver was then said to have groped her thighs and the girl warned him to not do it again.
The driver then allegedly took out a small knife from his pouch and told the victim to hand over her money.
Instead, the victim jumped out of the moving car and fled on foot, said Supt George.
He added that despite being injured, the girl managed to call a friend for help.
The two of them went to lodge a police report on the matter at about 1.14pm.
Supt George said initial investigations found that the suspect’s vehicle had a plate number registered to another vehicle.
“A hunt is on for the suspect,” he added.
Those with information on this case are urged to inform the investigating officer Inspector Riduan Abd Majidat at 010-514 4059 or go to the nearest police station to facilitate the investigation.
