Prince George left ‘so sad’ by David Attenborough documentary he ‘had to turn it off’

The future heir to the throne, like his father, Prince William, and grandfather, Prince Charles, is growing up to be a passionate environmentalist, illustrated by one story the Duke of Cambridge laid bare last year. As William tells it, George, 8, was left distraught by one of Sir David Attenborough’s nature documentaries about extinction.

He reportedly told his father: “I don't want to watch this anymore.”

Speaking to Sky News last year, William said the extinction-based subject proved to be too much for his son.

William said: “The most recent one - the extinction one - actually George and I had to turn it off, we got so sad about it halfway through.

“He said to me 'you know I don't want to watch this anymore'.”

“Why has it come to this and you know he's seven years old and he's asking me these questions already, he really feels it, and I think every seven-year-old out there can relate to that.”

The Duke’s comments came after all three of his children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, asked Sir David about his favourite animal.

Some adorable footage of the event shows George ask Sir David which animal he thought might become extinct next.

In a hopeful message, the British broadcaster told him: “Well let's hope there won't be any because there are a lot of things we can do when animals are in danger of extinction.

       “We can protect them.”

The young heir to the throne is reportedly a huge fan of the natural historian, according to his parents.

In 2019, his mother Kate Middleton admitted George and Charlotte were disappointed when they missed the chance to visit the broadcasting legend.

She said: “The children are very upset that we were coming to see you and they weren't coming, they're massive fans of yours.

William added: “They are absolutely fascinated by the programmes.

“I've got them into the African ones, but they love all the programmes.”

Sir David replied: “Do they, do they really?”
