However he’s now been forced to admit that Brexit will allow Britain to reap rewards while European red tape forces EU countries to lag behind on artificial intelligence.
Taking to X last night, Mr Clegg announced that he is overseeing an expansion of Meta AI to more countries, including the UK.
He added: “Unfortunately, we still can't roll it out in the EU because of the regulatory uncertainty we face there.”

“I hope the new Commission looks afresh at these issues, consistent with President Von Der Leyen’s aim of completing the EU’s digital Single Market, so Europeans can benefit from this new wave of technologies.”
Nigel Farage, who famously debated Nick Clegg about the merits of leaving the EU in 2014, has now revelled in the former politician's red-faced post.
He told the Express: “The great Europhile now realises that the EU is a disaster for business.”
"Better off out.”
Dominic Cummings has also pointed out that being outside the EU’s constricting AI regulation is a Brexit benefit that his Vote Leave campaign predicted way back in 2016.
The former Downing Street chief of staff added that the economic gains Britain will experience from AI while Europe lags behind will “compound steeply”.

However he warned: “Therefore many pathological forces in SW1 will try to sabotage it and align us with the anti-technology anti-growth failing Brussels ideology of bureaucratic centralism, spreading stagnation and extremism across Europe."
“We should also ditch GDPR and associated anti-competitive bulls**t ASAP. But Tories and Labour prefer stagnation.”
Thinktanker Sam Bidwell similarly pointed out that for decades Nick Clegg and other Remainers “told the British public that EU membership was necessary to keep our economy competitive.”
“But now Britain has access to Meta AI's latest innovations, and the EU doesn't. In a fast-moving world, flexibility and light-touch regulations are a huge advantage.”
