PADANG BESAR: The implementation of the development project for the Perlis Inland Port (PIP) will change the economic landscape of the state, says Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

The PIP and the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) are two mega projects that complement each other and would provide economic impact in the industrial and logistics sectors, said the Ruler.

“This will change the atmosphere, especially in Chuping and Padang Besar which were formerly agricultural areas.

“PIP is a public-private synergy in which the government allocates RM318mil for the development of external infrastructure while RM1.2bil from private investments are for the development of operating areas,” he was quoted by Bernama when launching the PIP development project at the CVIA here.

Also present at yesterday’s event were Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man and Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) chief executive Mohammad Haris Kader Sultan.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin hoped that the cooperation between the government and the private sector could be continued and enhanced to benefit all, especially the people of Perlis.

He said the project’s development would create many job opportunities in various fields and provide a spillover impact on the economy for the people in the state.

“It is hoped that the people of Perlis can take this opportunity to participate in the development of PIP to improve their economy and personal well-being,” he said.

The Ruler also hoped that the project could be completed according to schedule, expressing his confidence that it would boost the state’s economic performance and development to realise its goal of becoming a city-state by 2030.
