KUALA LUMPUR: Students from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) will be able to access all the news available on The Star online thanks to a corporate sponsorship.
Nirvana Asia Group has contributed RM50,000 to Star Media Group (SMG) to sponsor The Star Digital Access for UTAR.
Nirvana Asia Group executive director Reeno Kong said he hoped the collaboration would encourage more youngsters to read the news more often.
“The Star is the leading English newspaper in Malaysia and university students need it to access reliable news.
“Youngsters rarely read the news nowadays as they mostly focus on entertainment.
“Hopefully, this sponsorship will get them interested in current affairs including the news and other aspects of it,” Kong said after presenting a mock cheque for RM50,000 to SMG chief financial officer Sam Au at Nirvana Group’s headquarters here yesterday.
“We hope The Star will give us more opportunities to participate in more sponsorships so that we can do our part to help other students too,” Kong added.
Au thanked Nirvana Group and Kong for their generous contribution in enabling UTAR students to get digital access to news in The Star.
“Students from UTAR are the first batch to be part of this campaign.
“They can enjoy free access to The Star online.
“This is part of SMG’s subscription drive to promote more of our products to the younger generation and get them to read The Star,” said Au.
