KOTA KINABALU: Two hotel kitchen staff sustained injuries when a fire broke out due to faulty gas pipes on Saturday (May 7).
It is learnt that the duo were finishing up some cleaning and prep duties when the incident happened at the hotel in the city, at around 4am.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said the two men, known only as Mohd Nuzul and David, had managed to put the fire out before help arrived.
"Nuzul sustained burns on his arms among other injuries while David was slightly hurt," he said.
He said the duo managed to put out the fire and turn off the gas valve, which caused their injuries.
"Nuzul was taken to the hospital for treatment while David declined to be sent to the hospital as he said his injuries were minor," Misran said.
He said firemen checked the area for any hazardous elements and wrapped up their operations at 4.37am once everything was safe.
