Johor puts 4,000 cops on standby to respond to floods and other natural disasters

       JOHOR BARU: Johor police have put more than 4,000 of its personnel on standby in the event of any natural disasters during the current monsoon season.

       Outgoing state police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay (pic) said this involved 415 officers and 3,894 of the rank and file from the state police contingent and various district headquarters.

       "We have identified 25 hotspots throughout Johor with districts such as Johor Baru, Muar and Kota Tinggi having the most, four each.

       "Besides deploying manpower, we are also mobilising assets including 30 boats, 63 four-wheel drive vehicles, 43 generator sets, 32 vans and 10 tents," he told a press conference after officiating the state Police Family Association (Perkep) fun cycle programme at its headquarters here on Friday (Dec 31).

       He added that Johor police would be working closely with various agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department and Rela to ensure the smoothness of operations that might be required during the floods.
