KOTA KINABALU: Sabah STAR is willing to collaborate with any political party for the sake of political stability in the state, says its president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

He noted that the party was open to suggestions and had been collaborating with other political parties all this while.

Speaking at the launch of a joint venture between KOPSTAR Holdings Sdn Bhd and Trucknet Machinery Trading Sdn Bhd here on Friday (Sept 24), he also hoped all political parties, particularly in Sabah, could put aside their differences and work as a single entity, like in neighbouring Sarawak.

“This is so that we can be stronger. I think that is ideal and one day, it might be like that. Let’s work towards it,” Kitingan said.

Currently, the Deputy Chief Minister noted, both the government and Opposition were united when it came to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and restoring Sabah’s rights.

For example, he said in the state assembly on Thursday (Sept 23) that all the representatives unanimously rejected the Territorial Sea Act 2012, which unilaterally reduced the territorial sea of Sabah and Sarawak from 12 nautical miles to three nautical miles (a reduction of nine nautical miles, or 16.5km).

In April this year, Kitingan also issued a statement against the Act, which he described as unconstitutional and demanded that it be limited to the peninsula only, as Sabah and Sarawak had never agreed to it.
