Queen can rely on 'highly impressive line-up' as Royal Family plans hectic return to work

The Queen and the senior royals supporting the Crown illustrate how "formidable" the monarchy is, according to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams. The expert analysed the string of events announced by Buckingham Palace the sovereign is to attend between October and early November.

Of the Queen's six future engagements published in the royal diary so far, three will see the 95-year-old sovereign being accompanied by a prominent working member of the Firm.

Mr Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: "The Queen is reportedly to be accompanied by another member of the Royal Family when conducting some of her engagements and there are seven who are clearly the most significant - they are the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Cambridges, the Wessexes and the Princess Royal.

"Though the Royal Family has undoubtedly been adversely affected by the loss of the Sussexes and Prince Andrew as working members, this is a highly impressive line-up.

"And, as it is headed by the world's most experienced and best-known head of state, it also illustrates how formidable the monarchy still is, as a symbol of national unity, in projecting soft power and in symbolising continuity in difficult times."

The Queen showed off her team of seven leading working royals in December last year when she stepped outside of Windsor Castle to listen to a festive carol service.

This occasion marked the first social distanced reunion of the seven royals and the sovereign since the beginning of the pandemic.

During the heartwarming gathering, the Queen was spotted speaking to her relatives, who later attended a reception to thank volunteers and healthcare workers.

A source told the Daily Mirror at the time: "The family are united in exploring the possibilities in working with each other to highlight the causes dear to their hearts, helping each other and the country at the same time.

"They are working on opportunities for next year and beyond already.

"As soon as they are able it will be all hands on deck to make up for lost time."

The Queen will return to face-to-face engagements after her summer break at Balmoral Castle on October 2.

Then, accompanied by Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, she will attend the opening ceremony of the Scottish Parliament.

A few days later, on October 7, she will be in the company of her son Prince Edward at the launch of the Queen's Baton Relay for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

A third engagement to be jointly carried out with another senior royal will take place on October 12, when the sovereign and Princess Anne will attend a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey to mark the Centenary of the Royal British Legion.

On November 1, the monarch will attend a reception in Glasgow, on the first day of the COP-26 climate change summit.

While it hasn't been yet confirmed, it is likely Prince Charles will also be in attendance at the 12-day-long event, given his decades-long commitment to environmental causes.

Speaking about this array of engagements, Mr Fitzwilliams said: "The Queen has said 'I must be seen to be believed' and will be attending a programme of high-profile events in the coming period as part of a gradual return to normality.

"Some have considerable political significance such as the opening of the Scottish Parliament and the Senedd in Wales.

"The greatest importance has been attached to the COP-26 Summit on Climate Change, which the Queen will be attending.

"When she was present at the G7 in Cornwall, it added a very special cachet to the event, as it will here.

"The Prince of Wales has spent much of his life campaigning on environmental issues and is therefore certain to attend this prestigious gathering."

The Queen started her Scottish break on July 23 and has since reportedly hosted some of her closest relatives, including Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson and Princess Eugenie.

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and their children are also believed to have spent a few days with the Queen north of the border.
