Prince Andrew once again hit the headlines after Virginia Giuffre announced she was starting legal action against him for allegedly sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager. The Duke of York has vehemently and categorically denied all claims made against him. Prince Andrew is named as the only defendant in the suit, though Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell are mentioned frequently.

       Royal Editor of the Daily Mirror, Russell Myers, discussed the case on Pod Save The Queen with host Ann Gripper.

       Mr Myers claimed: "Andrew is possibly hoping the case gets thrown out, I don't think that will happen.

       "If it doesn't happen you're going to see two sides locking horns to try and out prove the other.

       "The thing is, in America, the burden really is on Andrew to sort of prove he's innocent if you are being sued in this manner."

       Mr Myers claimed: "He's really going to have to bring out all the stops.

       "One of the most interesting things is, we could see Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, on the stand giving evidence on his behalf.

       "You have a situation where Fergie has been exiled from the Royal Family for a couple of decades.

       "And yet she now possibly would be Prince Andrew's best chance at getting off the charges [allegations] that have been levelled to him by this civil case.

       "I think it's fascinating on so many levels."

       Virginia Roberts Giuffre's legal team announced recently they are seeking formal interviews with two "witnesses" in the UK in the coming weeks.

       Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew divorced in 1996 after ten years of marriage, but they are still close and live together in Windsor.

       They share two children, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

       The Duke and Duchess of York have remained close despite the end of their marriage and have often vacationed together with their daughters, and later their families.

       Andrew officially stepped back from royal duties due to controversy over his friendship with disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

       He also denied partying with Ms Giuffre at a London nightclub and subsequently having sex with her.
