TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Japan's top government spokesman said Monday that no cyberattacks had been confirmed so far since the opening of the Tokyo Olympics last week.
"We will continue to closely work with relevant organizations to ensure security during the period of the games," said Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato at a regular press conference.
The country has been on high alert against cyberattacks since the Tokyo Olympics officially opened on Friday. The Olympics will end on Aug. 8, to be followed by the Paralympics on Aug. 24-Sept. 5.
On Thursday, the websites associated with the games and some government websites became temporarily difficult to access, but U.S. firm Akamai Technologies Inc. said it was due to a system glitch, ruling out the possibility of a cyberattack.
