IPOH: Two men have been arrested after 128kg of drugs worth RM6.5mil were found in their luxury car at a roadblock near the Gopeng toll plaza.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the duo, aged 41 and 47, were believed to be travelling from Johor to a northern state.
He said they were travelling with an expired permit to cross districts meant for business purposes, and checks on the car found packets of "Chinese tea" filled with drugs believed to be methamphetamine.
"Police stopped them as the two were behaving suspiciously. When checks were conducted, a total of 117 packets were found in a modified compartment inside the boot.
"When the car was brought back to the Kampar police district headquarters for further inspection, six more packets containing drugs were found in the spare tyre well," he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters here on Sunday (June 27).
Comm Mior Faridalathrash said one of the suspects tested positive for drugs.
"The older one has a record for criminal and drug offences. Both have been remanded until Wednesday (June 30)," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Comm Mior Faridalathrash commended his men for their fast action and efficiency in stopping and checking the car thoroughly.
