Princess Aiko, 20, made her royal debut when she made an appearance at a New Year's celebration at the Imperial Palace. The event, hosted in Tokyo, saw the Princess wear a white gown with long gloves.
She also chose to put on a pearl necklace with a red and yellow sash.
Her father Emperor Naruhito, 61, and mother Empress Masako, 58, joined their daughter at the event with other members of the imperial family as they welcomed Japan into 2022.
All of those in attendance donned face coverings.
The World Health Organisation claims Japan has recorded just 2,555 COVID-19 cases and 4 virus deaths on January 3.

Princess Aiko's appearance comes just weeks after she was able to start her official public duties.
However, the Princess did greet the press during a celebration at the Imperial Palace on December 5.
Aiko celebrated her 20th birthday on December 1.
Although Aiko is the Emperor's only child, she is not next in line as Japan only lets male heirs ascend to the throne.

Instead Crown Prince Akishino, who turned 56 just two days before Aiko's birthday, is next in line.
Akishino's daughter Mako, 30, made headlines last year after she offered to give up her status as a royal in order to marry a commoner.
The ex-Princess married Kei Komuro, also 30, on October 26.
The couple have since relocated to New York City where Komuro works at a top law firm.

Mako and Kei first announced they planned to tie the knot in September 2017.
However, their wedding was pushed back following a financial dispute involving Komuro's mother.
