KUALA LUMPUR: Thirteen men were detained for driving while intoxicated following a traffic operation in several parts of the city from Friday (March 18) to Sunday (March 20).
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said they were detained during the operation held at the city centre, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tun Razak and the AKLEH expressway from Friday until Sunday.
"The blood alcohol level of those detained was beyond the permitted limit.
"They were detained under Section 45(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and they were brought to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic police station for further action," he said in a statement Sunday.
Seven other men were detained for riding their motorcycles dangerously, he said.
"We also detained four other motorcyclists for using fake vehicle registration numbers.
"A 22-year-old man was detained for riding a suspected stolen motorcycle. He has been handed over to the Ampang Jaya police for further action," he said.
A total of 660 summonses were issued during the operation, ACP Sarifudin said.
"We also seized 38 motorcycles for illegal exhaust modifications," he said.
ACP Sarifudin said more such operations will be conducted in the future, especially during the weekends.
"Our aim is to prevent and curb traffic offences and to ensure the safety of all road users.
