Jay Slater search: Tenerife's town mayor slams CCTV sighting insisting 'he's not here'

CCTV footage of what could show Jay Slater before he went missing has prompted the town’s mayor to say “he’s not here”.

The Mayor of the town in Tenerife where Jay Slater was potentially sighted on security cameras does not think the apprentice bricklayer even set foot into the location.

A grainy clip shows a figure walking past a church in what's believed to be Santiago del Tiede - which is around four miles from where Jay was last seen - at around 6pm on Monday, June 17 on the day he went missing.

But Mayor Mayor Emilio Navarro said: "He's not here." He added: "The Guardia Civil sent us an email asking for our security cameras.

“We could not give it to them as they are organised through a separate company, so the police are speaking to them. But that CCTV picture is not from us and I do not recognise that place - I do not think it is in Santiago del Tiede and he is not here,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

He said that he is happy to help police “but it makes no sense”.

Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was last seen walking alone on Monday morning, June 17, as he departed an Airbnb for what is a 10-hour trek through rugged, isolated terrain towards his friends' location in the south of the island.

But his movements after approximately 8.30am on Monday are unknown.

The final known location of his phone was at Rural de Teno Park, a mountainous nature reserve where search teams have ramped up their efforts to find him.

Jay's mother, Debbie Duncan, has called the search for her son "an absolute living nightmare".

Debbie, 55, disclosed that someone claims to have spotted her son walking with two men last Monday evening.

She said: "Somebody has come forward to say they saw someone who they thought was Jay walking back down the road sat on a bench.

"He was with two men looking a bit worse for wear, and they were by a church, this guy has come forward and told the police about it and they are looking into it. We don't know if it was Jay for sure, but it's a start.

"They said it was about 6pm which is ten hours after he was seen by the lady in the village. But if it was him what was he doing there and who are these two men?"
