Several roads in the area were closed for part of Friday morning because of downed trees and flooded areas as heavy rains hit the Washington metro area.
In Northern Virginia, the George Washington Parkway was closed in both directions Friday morning for several hours because of a fallen tree. The closure, just south of Chain Bridge Road, reopened just after 10 a.m.

On Glebe Road in Virginia, work had to be stopped on a bridge project after two trees fell in the area, according to Virginia Department of Transportation.
Also in Virginia, there were reports of high water along U.S. 50 east near Prosperity Avenue in the Fairfax area.
In the District, there were reports of high water in several parts of the city and earlier troubles with several crashes along Interstate 695 at the Third Street Tunnel in Southwest.
