MELAKA: Melaka Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia is leaving it to party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to decide if their two assemblymen will sit in the Opposition or government side in the state assembly.
Melaka Bersatu chairman Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub said he would leave it to the party’s leadership to determine whether Sungai Udang assemblyman Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof and himself will be part of the Opposition bloc or declare themselves Barisan Nasional-friendly during the upcoming four-day special convergence of the Melaka legislative assembly staring Dec 27.
“We have yet to declare ourselves as part of the Opposition and would leave it to our national leaders to do so.
“We will only know our fate once the leaders have decided,” he said on Friday (Dec 17).
Dr Yadzil, who is Bemban assemblyman, said he had yet to meet Melaka Pakatan Harapan chairman Adly Zahari to discuss the possibility of joining them.
Melaka Barisan Nasional leaders have yet to announce if they will accept the two Bersatu assemblymen into their fold.
Barisan secured a two-thirds majority in the recent state polls.
Meanwhile, five Pakatan assemblymen will continue to support Adly, the former Melaka chief minister, to continue as Opposition chief for the state.
Pakatan won five state seats in the Nov 25 state election.
Only Adly, who is the Melaka Amanah chief, managed to retain his Bukit Katil constituency while DAP won four urban constituencies.
Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong said the four DAP lawmakers would support Adly as the Opposition chief.
“We will back Adly as the Opposition chief even if the two Bersatu assemblymen want to be part of us,” he said.
