Nick Clegg’s wife has poured scorn on David Cameron as she called for British politicians to have the "courage to call" for Brexit to be reversed.

Miriam González Durántez shared a clip to Threads, the social media platform launched by Meta earlier this year.

The Spanish international trade lawyer posted a clip of the foreign secretary speaking to peers on the House of Lords European Affairs committee.

Discussing how relations between London and Brussels had relaxed, Lord Cameron said: “A lot of the heat and anger has come out of the relationship. It’s much more functional and I think it’s functioning well.

Ms González Durántez captioned the video: “David Cameron talking about Brexit and the relationship with the EU. It must be wonderful to be able to go through life with such levity.”

Other Threads users didn’t agree with her, with one replying: “You are shameless.” But another was critical of David Cameron, simply saying: “Deluded”.

And one user said: “Not much of a character. But a good accent can make miracles in the UK context. Considering the average level in the EU, he may be a candidate for the Nobel prize.”

The Spanish lawyer criticised Brexit this week, sharing on Threads just two days ago: “Seven years after the Brexit referendum and the UK is not only still applying EU legislation from before the vote, they are also copying new EU legislation like the carbon tax. At least in the past they could shape EU legislation- now they do not even get to do that!”

She also mocked reports about the UK's struggle to negotiate a trade deal with the United States, writing: "I am amazed that even in this situation the UK elite still does not find the courage to call for the decision to be reversed - yet another country being let down by its elite."

When Lord Cameron was first appointed foreign secretary, the news was greeted dismissively by Ms González Durántez.

She posted a headline about his appointment on Instagram with the caption: “Clearly getting bored at home and yet home is where he truly belongs.”
