JOHOR BARU: Two wild elephants were detected roaming around Taman Bandar Tiram here in the early hours of Wednesday (Oct 20) morning.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that a five-second video recorded on a closed-circuit camera showed an elephant walking in front of people's houses in the area.
He added on Thursday (Oct 21) that the video went viral after it was posted on the Orang Kota Tinggi Facebook page, and said that the incident happened at 5.17am.
“The two elephants are believed to have roamed from Batu 14 ? near Sungai Tiram to the back of the Malaysian Army Combat Training Centre (Pulada) by going through Taman Bandar Tiram,” said Supt Mohd Sohaimi.
He said that the Johor Baru Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) have confirmed receiving information on the incident, and added that the police have yet to receive reports on damage to property or injuries from people living in the area.
Supt Mohd Sohaimi then urged those with information regarding the wild elephants to contact the nearest police station or contact the Johor Baru Perhilitan immediately for further action.
