MELAKA: Eleven schools have been ordered to temporarily close after 1,258 students throughout the state tested positive for Covid-19.
Melaka education and technology committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said data from the health authorities that was updated on Thursday (Feb 17) shows the figure of students testing positive for Covid-19 has crossed the 1,000 mark.
"These schools will be closed between five to seven days while disinfection at all these schools will be carried out by the relevant agencies," he said on Friday (Feb 18).
Rais identified the schools as SK Kampung Tun Razak, SJKC Yu Ning, SK Paya Redan, SK Batu Berendam, SK Pulai, SK Chinchin, SMK Tun Tuah, SK Tun Syed Ahmad Shahabudin, SK Duyung, SK Bukit Rambai and SK Taman Bukit Rambai.
He said the teaching sessions at these schools will be conducted online.
Rais said temperature taking will be continued at schools while RTK screenings would be done on targeted groups.
He said the state government is also intensifying the efforts to inoculate 98,200 students in the state.
Currently, he added only 18.5% of the total student population in the state has been vaccinated.
