KUALA TERENGGANU: The wish of two women – Wan Esah Wan Long, 66, and her mother Semek Mat Zain, 96 – to get vaccinated against Covid-19 has finally come true, thanks to the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) “Jejak Vaksin” programme.

       Wan Esah said she was supposed to get vaccinated in early May but had no transport to get to the vaccination centre in Chendering, about 25km away from her home in Kampung Kesom Tok Tukang.

       The pair have trouble moving about as the diabetic Wan Esah has cataracts in both eyes and suffers from blurred vision, while her mother is frail and has hearing problems.“A representative from the village community management council (MPKK) contacted me and offered to take us both for the vaccination. We were thrilled,” Wan Esah said when met at the UniSZA Jejak Vaksin programme venue at SK Kesom here.They were chauffeured by an MPKK representative to the vaccination centre, where they were both given the Sinovac vaccine.

       Wan Esah said she did not hesitate to register for the vaccination because she wanted to be able to meet her son and grandchildren, who live in Johor Baru.

       “My son doesn’t know that I’ve gotten my (vaccine) shot. I can’t contact him as my vision is blurry. Usually, he is the one who contacts me,” she said.

       Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who paid a visit to the programme venue, said 600 residents from nearby areas were targeted to receive their vaccine shots.

       He said the programme was organised by UniSZA in collaboration with the Health Ministry, Ibnu Sina Medical Charity Organisation and the Association of Wives of Terengganu State Representatives and Former Representatives. — Bernama
