MELAKA: A security guard claimed trial to six charges of committing rape and outraging the modesty of two teens last year.

       The 27-year-old accused pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court judge Darmafikri Abu Adam on Wednesday (Jan 17).

       Based on the charge sheets, the accused, who is the stepfather to the two girls, aged 14 and 16, has allegedly committed sexual assaults on them on separate occasions between June 2023 and Jan 2 this year.

       The charges were framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

       The accused also faced charges of committing rape under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.

       The offences were allegedly committed at a low-cost flat in Tanjung Kling.

       Deputy public prosecutor Rashidah Baharom prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Nur Aifaa Mohd Zain.

       The court fixed Feb 27 as the next mention date.

       The accused was sent to prison as he was unable to raise the bail money.

       On Jan 10, it was reported that a man was suspected to have sexually assaulted and raped his stepdaughters over a period of five years.

       He was said to have taken advantage of the girls when their mother was out managing her burger stall in Tanjong Kling.
