PETALING JAYA: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic) has denied allegations that he is taking bribes from illegal gambling syndicates in the state after he was named in an anonymous Twitter account.
“In relation to the allegation linking me to having received monthly payments from illegal gambling syndicates, I deny such a claim that has no basis altogether.
“I vehemently deny the allegation,” he said in a tweet on Monday night.
Amiruddin’s statement was shared by the Selangor Information Centre on Twitter.
His denial comes in the wake of allegations by @edisi_siasatmy that the Sungai Tua assemblyman had been receiving RM150,000 in monthly payments from illegal gambling syndicates.
The money was alleged to have been used to fund political activities.
Besides Amirudin, several others said to have links with illegal gambling syndicates, were also named by @edisi_siasatmy in several tweets.
The anonymous Twitter account also claimed that enforcement officers from several agencies were on the take from the syndicates.
Meanwhile, several social media users have commended Amiruddin for his denial and urged him to lodge a police report and seek legal action.
