Regarding the Dec. 2 Metro article “House Republicans to launch probe of FBI site selection”:
Complicating the ruckus over a proposed new FBI headquarters is that it has become an all-or-nothing proposition, which makes no sense. FBI top brass and critical administrative functions should logically remain in downtown D.C., close to the Justice Department, Congress and the White House. The current building could easily be remodeled and updated for this role.

There are training facilities in Virginia that should be enlarged and enhanced, and FBI technical functions, such as crime labs and cybersecurity operations, would ideally be situated in Maryland near existing resources at Fort Meade, at College Park and within the private sector.
This should not be a political battle. Not only could there be something for everyone, but the separation of functions would be a practical solution as well.
